조심스러운 요가 강사 A에게는 한 가지 원칙이 있다. 몸이 할 수 없는 일을 된다고 말하지 않는 것. 하지만 기적 같은 효과를 파는 건강 사업에 자기 이름을 내주면서 그 원칙이 무너진다. 받지 말았어야 할 수강생이 수업 중 크게 다치자, A는 자신이 쌓아 온 이름을 지키려고 진실을 묻는다. 사람을 살피게 해 준 재능이 끝내 A가 짓밟는 것이 된다.

A는 천천히 가르치는 강사다.

새로 오는 사람마다 몸 상태를 꼼꼼히 살피고, 자신이 안전하게 맡을 수 없다고 판단하면 돌려보낸다.

그래서 A의 요가원은 정직하지만 늘 돈에 쪼들린다.

반면 경쟁자는 A가 차마 입에 담지 못하는 치료 효과를 내세워 수업을 가득 채운다.

건강 사업에 돈을 대는 B는 그런 A를 눈여겨보고, A의 이름과 방법을 앞세워 오래된 통증과 부상을 덜어 준다는 사업을 하자고 제안한다.

A는 닿을 수 없는 곳까지 고친다고 말할 수는 없다고 버틴다.

B는 그래도 그렇게 말하라고 한다.

월세는 밀려 있다.

A는 조금씩 그렇게 말하기 시작한다.

수업은 금세 차고 돈도 들어온다.

A는 사람들을 병원으로 보내던 일을 멈춘다.

그러다 C가 찾아온다.

C는 척추 수술을 받은 지 얼마 되지 않았다는 사실을 숨긴다.

A는 C의 등에서 위험한 신호를 느끼지만, 모두가 지켜보는 자리에서 자세를 더 깊게 밀어붙인다.

이제 이 사업은 누구도 거절하지 않는다는 말로 커졌기 때문이다.

C는 심하게 다친다.

A에게는 선택지가 있다.

사실대로 신고하고 모든 것을 잃거나, 거짓말로 덮는 것.

A는 C의 문진표를 고쳐 쓰고, 면책 동의서 날짜를 앞당겨 적는다.

B는 C에게 돈을 건네 입을 막는다.

거짓말은 통한다.

사업은 더 커진다.

A는 자신이 한때 경멸하던 사람이 되어 간다.

새로 들어오는 수강생마다 A가 고쳐 주겠다고 약속해야 하는 몸이 되고, 그 약속이 이어질수록 처음의 거짓말은 더 깊이 묻혀야 한다.

그러던 중 C의 고통이 세상에 알려진다.

A는 마지막 선택 앞에 선다.

위조한 문진표를 인정할 것인가, 아니면 C를 영영 침묵시킬 것인가.

예전의 A는 몸이 보내는 신호를 읽던 사람이었다.

이제 A가 읽는 것은 계약서뿐이다.

A는 자기 이름을 지킨다.

팔아 온 호흡은 남기지만, 자신이 끝까지 가르치려 했던 단 하나, 몸이 말하는 것을 느끼는 법은 잃어버린다.

Intake

A careful yoga instructor trades her one rule — never promise what a body can't do — for a wellness brand that sells miracles. When a client she should have refused is crippled in her class, she buries the truth to protect the name she built. The gift that made her good becomes the thing she destroys.

A teaches the slow way.

She screens every body.

She turns away clients she can't safely serve.

Her studio is honest and nearly broke.

A richer rival fills classes with cures A won't promise.

B, a wellness investor, watches A work and offers her a brand: her name, her method, sold as relief for chronic pain and old injuries.

A says her practice heals nothing it can't reach.

B says, 'Say it anyway.'

Rent is due.

A starts to say it.

The classes fill.

The money comes.

A stops sending people to doctors.

She takes C, who hides how recent her spinal surgery was.

A feels the warning in C's back and deepens the pose anyway, because the room is watching and the brand was built on never saying no.

C is injured.

Badly.

A can report it and lose everything, or save it with a lie.

She rewrites C's intake form, backdates a waiver, and lets B pay C to stay quiet.

The lie holds.

The brand grows.

A becomes the name she once despised, and every new client is a body she must swear she can fix — each promise needing the last lie kept buried.

Then C's pain goes public.

A faces the choice that defines her: confess the forged form, or silence C for good.

The instructor who once read every body now reads only the contract.

She protects the brand.

She keeps the breath she sells and loses the one thing she ever taught — to feel what the body is telling you.
