모두가 믿는 간호사 A는 병원과 보험이 외면한 환자를 덜 아프게 하려고 진통제를 몰래 빼돌린다. 숨기는 약이 늘어날수록 A는 병동에 꼭 필요한 사람이 되지만, 점점 예전의 자신에게서 멀어진다. 마약성 진통제 재고가 맞지 않는다는 사실이 드러나자, A가 죄를 떠넘길 수 있는 사람은 자신을 가장 믿는 후배 간호사뿐이다.

A는 병동에서 가장 신뢰받는 간호사다.

보호자들은 A를 찾고, 병원은 A를 책임간호사 후보로 본다.

그만한 이유도 있다.

A는 일을 잘하고, 환자에게 다정하며, 누구보다 빈틈없이 움직인다.

그러던 어느 날 B가 들어온다.

모두가 아끼는 환자지만 통증은 심하고, 보험에서 정한 한도 때문에 더는 약을 늘릴 수 없다.

아무도 예외를 허락하지 않는다.

A는 딱 한 번만 규칙을 어기기로 한다.

결국 약국 감사 C가 시작되고, 마약성 진통제 수량이 기록과 맞지 않는다는 사실이 드러난다.

A가 사실대로 말하면 지금까지 쌓아 온 모든 것을 잃는다.

반대로 서류가 이미 향하고 있는 곳으로 책임을 밀어도 된다.

그곳에는 A가 가르치던 젊은 간호사 D가 있다.

D는 예전에 폐기 기록을 어떻게 남기느냐고 A에게 물었고, A가 한 방식을 그대로 따라 했다.

A는 D보다 재고 기록을 택한다.

깨끗한 얼굴로 증언하고, 승진 기회를 지키고, D가 병동을 떠나는 모습을 본다.

A could confess and lose everything she built, or she could let the paperwork point where it already leans, toward D, the young nurse she mentors, who once asked her how to log a waste and copied her exactly.

A chooses the count over the girl.

She testifies clean, keeps the promotion, watches D walk out.

The fall is not the missing pills.

The fall is the moment she lets someone else carry them.
