샘플 옷

A는 샘플 옷이 딱 맞는 몸으로 큰 캠페인을 따낸다. 회사가 새로 뽑을 여자 모델들을 고르는 권한까지 주자, A는 자기 자리를 지키려고 자신이 당했던 방식 그대로 그들을 몰아붙인다. 그러다 결국 자신을 밀어낼 아이까지 직접 길러낸다.

A는 화보에 어울리는 얼굴에 샘플 옷까지 딱 맞는, 흔치 않은 모델이다.

회사는 그녀를 앞세워 큰 캠페인을 준비하고, A도 자신이 얼마나 값나가는 사람인지 안다.

하지만 이 바닥에서 자리는 순식간에 바뀐다는 것도 안다.

예전에 담당자는 A를 굶기다시피 살 빼게 만들고는 그걸 자기관리라고 불렀다.

이제 그 담당자는 A에게 새 제안을 한다.

신인 모델을 고르는 자리에 앉아 누가 계약할지 결정하면, 그만큼 몫을 챙겨주겠다는 것이다.

A는 그 제안을 받아들인다.

밀려날지도 모른다는 두려움은 점점 남을 쥐고 흔들고 싶은 마음으로 변한다.

열일곱 살 B에게 A는 자신이 들었던 말을 그대로 한다.

살을 더 빼라, 불리한 계약서에도 사인해라, 무서운 남자 앞에서도 웃어라.

B는 시키는 대로 한다.

A는 회사에 충성한 대가로 더 많은 일을 따낸다.

그 판에 맞춰 굶고 웃기를 거부하던 모델 C는 결국 버려지고, A와도 말을 끊는다.

그러던 어느 날 B는 A가 가르친 대로 움직인다.

A보다 낮은 금액을 부르고, 더 새로운 샘플 옷에 몸을 맞추고, A의 캠페인을 가져간다.

회사는 A를 내보낸다.

더는 그 자리에 설 수 없게 된 A에게 회사는 다시 연락해 다음 어린 모델을 봐달라고 한다.

A는 이번에는 말려야겠다고 생각한다.

하지만 입을 여는 순간, 그녀는 또다시 그 일을 받아들이라고 설득하고 있다.

She means to warn her.
