동네에서 작은 빵집을 꾸리는 A에게 가게를 키울 기회가 찾아온다. A는 그 기회를 잡으려고 자신을 가장 믿어 준 사람에게 죄를 뒤집어씌운다. 거래는 따내지만, 그걸 따낼 만한 이유였던 모든 것을 잃는다.

A는 작은 빵집을 운영한다.

손님들은 줄을 서서 빵을 사고, 가게는 동네에서 제법 이름이 나 있다.

B는 A가 처음으로 고용한 직원이다.

새벽마다 먼저 문을 열고, 장부를 챙기고, A가 선을 넘지 않도록 붙잡아 주는 사람이다.

하지만 A는 더 큰 가게를 원한다.

그때 식료품 체인 쪽 구매 담당자인 C가 도매 계약과 두 번째 매장 이야기를 꺼낸다.

이 계약만 잡으면 모든 것이 달라질 수 있다.

문제는 은행이다.

은행은 먼저 숫자를 보자고 한다.

A는 대출 서류에 매출을 부풀려 적고, 계산대 돈을 옮겨 입금 내역을 그럴듯하게 꾸민다.

처음에는 아주 적은 돈이었다.

그러다 은행이 장부에서 빈 곳을 찾아내고, 계산대를 누가 맡느냐고 묻는다.

A는 사실을 말할 수 있었다.

하지만 입을 다문다.

의심은 자연스럽게 B에게 향한다.

조사가 깊어지고, 계약을 살리려는 A는 결국 B가 돈을 빼돌린 것처럼 진술서에 이름을 적는다.

그러나 사라진 돈의 흔적은 결국 A에게로 이어진다.

이미 서류는 접수됐고, 계약은 앞으로 굴러가고 있다.

B는 떠난다.

B가 떠나자 새벽의 리듬도, 단골들도, 빵의 맛을 지키던 손길도 함께 사라진다.

A는 두 번째 매장을 얻는다.

공간은 더 넓어졌지만, 안은 더 비어 있다.

이제 A는 매주 거짓말을 지키고, 체인 주문을 맞추고, 자신이 세운 가게가 망가져 가는 모습을 보며 더 높은 곳으로 올라가야 한다.

무너진 책임은 A에게 있다.

A가 모든 걸 스스로 선택했기 때문이다.

Reversal: the missing money traces straight to A's own hand, but the papers are already filed and the deal already moving.

A gets the second location.
